Advent Historical Society
Articles of Incorporation
1986 Deed
The Advent Historical Society was officially incorporated on November 29, 1985, to disseminate and display information and artifacts of the social and economic history of the Marsh Creek area. The first board of directors included: Merrill Watson, Greensburg, president; John Fyfe, London, England, vice president; Mary K. Howell, Runville, secretary; Sarah “Jane” Franco, Moose Run, treasurer; Lee Johnson, Jr; Ray E. Burd, Sr.; and Randy Stauffer.
On April 14, 1986, the Advent Church building was deeded from God’s Missionary Church of Milesburg to the newly formed Advent Historical Society.
Fundraising to support the project and restore the church building through financial contributions and volunteer time began in 1986 and was completed in 1989. In 2019 the Advent Historical Society adopted a strategic plan to increase awareness and make the site more accessible to both residents and visitors to Centre County. “Music at the Advent,” a series of concerts under the direction of Board member Jeffery Watson, combine musical traditions to increase awareness and make the site more accessible to both residents and visitors to Centre County. The historic church building, constructed of logs, offers extraordinary acoustics and an evocative setting for a wide range of musical traditions that resonate with diverse audiences. In November 2022, the Advent Church was placed on the National Register of Historic Places and is included in the Passport program of the Centre County Historical Society.
