Civil War veterans associated with the Advent
Originally compiled under the direction of Edna Little (1965)
Alphabetized by name, updated and prepared for Internet by Robert L. Baker (1997)
The following is a partial list of Civil War veterans known to have been buried in Centre County. It contains the name of the soldier, the name of the cemetery where buried and the date of death. (An "NR" is used if no record of death date has been located.)
In some instances, the listing shows the same veteran buried in two different cemeteries. It is not exactly known at this point why the 1965 listing shows this discrepancy. But, because that work was only alphabetized by cemetery (and not by name), it would have been difficult to uncover this. Could it be that a veteran's descendant, not able to locate a memorial, decided to put one up in the cemetery the descendant thought the veteran ancestor was buried in? The Centre County Veterans Affairs office in the Willowbank Building in Bellefonte could offer no explanation, and it supports our effort to try and locate the actual place of burial.
Thanks to the late Mrs. Edna Liddle, a DAR member from Williamsport, who apparently supervised the project completed in 1965 of identifying Centre County burials of veterans of all wars. A copy of her list (not indexed, but arranged by cemetery) is in the Pennsylvania Room of the Centre County Library in Bellefonte as well as the Clinton County Library in Lock Haven.
